With its new PRIME ODF module, R&M sets new standards for broadband providers and provides planning freedom when expanding FTTH networks

Milpitas, California, April 2, 2019/PRNewswire/ - R&M, an active developer and supplier of high-quality network infrastructure, today announced the launch of PRIME ODF in the US Distribution frame (ODF) high-density cabling platform. PRIME (Professional Interconnection Management Equipment) ODF provides fiber optic (FO) network operators with greater planning freedom, enabling them to use their fiber optic distribution hub units in more diverse ways than ever before. With PRIME ODF, network operators can now accurately design fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks from the beginning to meet local requirements, and it is still possible to expand or adjust them at any time in the future. At the maximum capacity, the PRIME ODF module can connect 5,376 optical fibers in an optical distribution frame (ODF), which is a new standard in the FTTH market.

"PRIME ODF offers the highest fiber density, modularity, flexibility, scalable cost, easy installation and migration to new and existing network infrastructure," said Dieter Studer, Marketing Manager of R&M USA Inc., "These features Improved network planning, fiber security, and cable management during network operation and maintenance."

Above-ground street cabinets and basements, main distributor frames, central offices, and POP (point of presence) sites are some of the most important locations for PRIME ODF racks. Here, they form the nodes of local broadband networks, such as urban ring networks and feeder networks. PRIME ODF is suitable for places where space is limited and a large number of optical fibers need to be connected. The platform is also suitable for optical fiber distribution in data centers and backhaul networks of mobile communication providers.

Through PRIME ODF, R&M has realized the principle of modularity. The dispenser can be assembled, adjusted and expanded like individual blocks. This approach allows network operators to plan with controllable investment costs and only order the specific number of components they need (pay as you grow). Network operators can also quickly respond to local FTTH needs and technological advancements, and expand broadband networks to meet demand.

Up to 14 PRIME ODF modules can be installed in a 19-inch or ETSI rack. The adaptive tool-free design of PRIME ODF ensures that no tools are required for assembly in the R&M ETSI rack. This improves installation efficiency and flexibility of network operations. The PRIME ODF module can be assembled from the front or back of a 19-inch rack.

A subrack can accommodate four PRIME ODF fiber optic units. They can be combined and equipped in a variety of ways, and can be retrofitted without tools. The PRIME ODF series contains fiber optic units for fiber termination, splices and branch wiring, as well as patch cords and extra-long storage. When using R&M's ultra-high-density LC adapter, the capacity of the PRIME ODF module totals 5,376 FO connections. The high packing density reduces the average cost per port.

The drawer technology protects the optical fiber during assembly, maintenance and cleaning. The fibers remain in the guide. The channel system protects the optical fiber leading to the fusion splicing zone. When the drawer is pushed in and pulled to the maintenance position for cleaning and inspection, the connector can be inspected and operated.

The PRIME ODF module is immediately available in the United States. For sales information, please contact [Email Protection] or call (408) 945-6626.
