Entrepreneurs and innovators will be awarded at the BizTimes media event on December 10th

Jon Harms receives lifetime achievement award

Some top entrepreneurs and innovators from southeastern Wisconsin will be awarded at BizTimes Media’s Innovation + Entrepreneur Forum, which will be held at 7:30 am on December 10 at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee. Click here to register.

Highlights of the program will include the annual BizTimes Media Lifetime Achievement Award, which is awarded to an extraordinary entrepreneur in southeastern Wisconsin, whose company has achieved great success and made a significant contribution to the community, and the regional spirit award. Grant an entrepreneur to surpass everything and make the Milwaukee area a more suitable place to live, work, and play.

Jon Hammes, founder and managing partner of the Hammes Company in Milwaukee, will receive a lifetime achievement award. Hammes Co. is a national real estate consulting, development, investment and management company. Hammes founded the company in 1991. Two years later, Hammes Healtcare was established, focusing on healthcare real estate consulting and project management. The company has been rated as a leading healthcare developer by Modern Healthcare's architecture and design survey for 22 consecutive years, ranked first in 19 years, and has been named a leading healthcare developer by Revista's outpatient medical real estate development report.

Hammes Co. is also the project developer of several major sports real estate projects, including Ford Field in Detroit, the Kohl Center and Lambeau Field expansion project of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the adjacent Green Bay Titletown District development project.

Hammes also serves on the board of directors of the University of Wisconsin Foundation, Teach for America, and the University of Marquette.

Dan Katt, co-founder and CEO of Milwaukee-based Good City Brewing and owner of Craft Development, will receive the Regional Spirit Award. Good City Brewing developed from its original location in the East Side of Milwaukee, and now has branches in Deer District and Wawatosa in downtown Milwaukee. The company also conducts business in the Century City Business Park, which is Milwaukee's main initiative to promote the economic development of the downtown area. An ownership group led by Katt acquired the 53,400-square-foot Century City 1 building, which was built in 2016 but was not fully leased until this year. Now, Katt's team plans to build a similar building next to Century City 1.

The Innovation + Entrepreneur Forum will also include a panel discussion on best practices in innovation and entrepreneurship. These panel members include:

After the group discussion, there will be a group meeting entitled "Thinking on the road from idea to innovation and management of detours along the way". Panel members will include: Brian Durst, CEO of Tribe 9 Foods LLC in Madison; Ryan Sberna, CEO of Eagle Eye Power Solutions LLC, based in Milwaukee; and Scott Reigle and James Wawrzyn, lawyers of Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols SC, Milwaukee This meeting will discuss real-world examples of proposing ideas and implementing them within the framework of existing business operations, as well as addressing other potential sources of resistance. The discussion will discuss lessons learned in dealing with challenges that may require the use of outside professionals for help.
