TDS Telecommunications today announced that it will expand its fiber optic network deployed in and around Green Bay, Wisconsin, to provide symmetrical speeds of up to 2 Gbps for residential buildings and 10 Gbps for enterprises.

Today's announcement adds more than 50,000 residential and commercial service locations in Green Bay, Bellevue, and Ashwabennon to the previously announced areas.

In addition to broadband Internet, the company will also provide TV and telephone services. Construction will begin in the fall, and fiber optic services will be provided to customers in all three communities in phases.

The company announced the first part of its expansion into the Green Bay area earlier this month. Combined with the use of fiber optic technology, these two projects will cover nearly 70,000 Green Bay area addresses.

“At a time when all communities need access to the fast and reliable Internet, as we, as a city, continue to expand digital access to our communities and improve the digital capabilities of urban operations, I welcome the work started by TDS to strengthen the provision of Internet to Green Bay residents. Competition between providers of television and telephone services," Mayor Eric Genrich said in a prepared statement in today’s press release.

"TDS's optical fiber expansion in Green Bay will bring the high-speed connections that residents and businesses want and need," said Andrew Peterson, senior vice president of corporate affairs at TDS, in a prepared statement. "The technology can meet today's needs and future expectations."

TDS recently launched a fiber optic network in Fox cities, Wisconsin (including Appleton, Kimberley, Kaukuna, Menasa, and the small slide), and projects in Wausau and Stevens Point are about to be completed.

The company is also expanding in other areas of Wisconsin, thanks to the state's $2 million bonus, which comes from funds allocated to the state under the American Rescue Program Act.
